cause: inspiring young artists to reach their fullest potential

Metropolitan School of the Arts is a performing arts community on a mission to change the world by inspiring and supporting students, faculty and staff to reach their fullest potential as artists, innovators and generous citizens.

Concept and Design for Reopening Installation

“Coming here is my only normal right now.” — Marcie Abenes, freshman student and aspiring artist

When Metropolitan reopened its doors this fall after state-mandated closure last spring, the virus was visually immortalized across a slew of interior and exterior directional signage, mask requirement notices, floor stickers indicating where to stand and more. So we went in a decidedly non-Covid direction—forward looking and hopeful—on these two poster triptych displays that line the lobby.

We paired multi-discipline images with inspirational messages to remind Marcie and other young artists like her that, in the face of adversity, your craft is your constant. The arts demand abiding perseverance. We created a set of matching images for usage on social media.

Event Creative for The Company Project: Upgrade

“This is a show about eliminating mental baggage.” — Sara Hart, Artistic Director

The Company Project is a groundbreaking annual performance featuring the resident dance companies of Metropolitan and showcasing the works of renowned choreographers. The dancers—many of whom are on the professional track—demonstrate a maturity beyond their years. Titled Upgrade, this show was not about the accumulation of more things but the decluttering of one’s mindscape.

We developed commanding phrases encapsulating the show theming, layered images of the dancers to create a hologram effect, and heightened the impact by intertwining the words with their bodies. This artwork was then rolled out across a suite of promotional materials including posters, flyers, postcards, e-blasts and more.
